Meet Jay and Liz Moser

For Jay and Liz Moser, hospitality, service, and advocacy have long been central to their lives and faith.

Liz grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana, while Jay was raised in Iowa. Over the course of Jay's career in the glass industry-as an engineer and later a plant manager-the couple lived in Delaware and Louisiana before eventually returning to Indiana following Jay's retirement. Today, they are grateful to be surrounded by family, including their adult children, three grandchildren, and a fourth grandchild expected soon.

Throughout their marriage, Jay and Liz have been drawn to learning from people whose experiences differ from their own. They have opened their home to numerous international high school students over the years and cherish opportunities to gather people around a crowded table. Their commitment to serving others continues today through Jay's weekly volunteer work at Ronald McDonald House, Liz's involvement with Moms Demand Action, and their shared leadership in community advocacy efforts.

Although they have been members of St. Luke's since 2022, their connection to the church emerged from one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.

In 2021, Jay and Liz lost their son, Adam, during a mental health crisis when a police response ended in tragedy. In the months that followed, they became advocates for clinician-led crisis response programs designed to provide more appropriate care during mental health emergencies. As they sought support for this work, they were encouraged to connect with St. Luke's.

What initially felt like a painful redirection soon became a profound blessing.

"The social justice outreach is what first led us to St. Luke's," they shared. "It hurt at the time, but God puts you where He wants you. And we are so very blessed that He wanted us at St. Luke's."

Since joining the congregation around Easter of 2022, Jay and Liz have become deeply engaged in the life of the church. They are active in the Indy Action Coalition and a Disciple Small Group, and Liz serves alongside Mr. Todd in Sunday School with four- and five-year-old children.

They especially value the church's commitment to putting faith into action.

"Rob's sermons and the social justice outreach are everything to us," they said. "We are proud to invite people to St. Luke's who perhaps have been hurt or rejected by Christians."

For Jay and Liz, St. Luke's is more than a place of worship. It is a community where faith extends beyond Sunday mornings and where compassion, justice, and outreach are lived out every day.

That conviction also inspired them to include St. Luke's in their estate plans.

Their intention is to leave ten percent of their estate to the church, reflecting both their faith and their desire to make a lasting impact. More specifically, they hope their gift will support St. Luke's Social Justice and Outreach Ministry.

Their planned gift is also a tribute to Adam.

"Adam isn't here for us to give to him monetarily," they explained. "In honor of Adam, we want to work with the church so that our gift is specifically used for Social Justice and Outreach Ministry. If one person benefits from one dollar that began with us, we do so in honor of Adam."

Looking ahead, Jay and Liz hope St. Luke's will continue to be known for the qualities that first drew them to the congregation: warmth, community engagement, and a commitment to caring for others.

They pray that the church's focus on outreach and community care will remain strong for generations to come, continuing to be a place where people find acceptance, purpose, and hope.

Through their legacy gift, they are helping St. Luke's remain a place where lives are transformed through compassion, justice, and the love of Christ for generations to come.
